JUST A FREEWAY
IN his letter in the January 19 edition headlined “Fact is missed” Jim Reddyhough mounts arguments to support the Perth Freight Link.
It is a pity that none of them has any basis in reality.
Jim believes that the PFL is being built for trucks; Transport Minister Dean Nalder disagrees.
He enthusiastically told a delegation of White Gum Valley residents in November that more than 90 per cent of vehicles would be cars. He said that the “freight link” was only dreamed up to get federal funding.
In other words, the PFL is just a freeway. All the world knows that freeways do not ease traffic congestion, they merely push it from one community to another.
Of course, this will be a freeway with a difference. Main Roads is intending to allow triple-trailer road trains to traverse it 24/7, every day of the year.
Have fun, Jim, out for a family Sunday drive with those on either side of you at freeway speeds. roads to avoid paying the fees, thereby sending them into residential side streets.
Adding lanes does not ease congestion (it did not work duplicating the Narrows Bridge) or re-routing and then claiming they are “removing” 5000 trucks is pure fallacy.
These trucks are still on our roads causing hold ups and spewing toxic fumes: that is just happening in someone else’s suburb.
The PFL and Roe 8 has been a project with decisions made on the run. The Government cannot even agree on how to get the trucks to the port.
Now a tunnel is Mr Nalder’s next thought bubble, yet homeowners are still in the dark over whether or not they will lose their homes.
How can Mr Barnett expect to charge a toll for a road that has failed environmental through the courts?
Part of the proposal is still in discussion mode and how will trucks finally get to the port is still an issue.
It is a bad project, badly planned and will never solve the ever-increasing problem of road congestion.
What about schools, hospitals, road and rail, there is no money left. Why?
The Australian Government is spending all the taxpayers' money on American weapons. Why?
Wake up Australia before it is too late; ask how much money has been spent on destroying the Middle East and why.
