Musicians rally to support fire victims
PERTH’S musical community has united in an effort to support the devastating loss of an entire community last month.
Bayswater musician Daren Reid – frontman of popular corporate event band Daren Reid and the Soul City Groove – helped rally local and national talent for a relief concert at Gloucester Park this Sunday.
The We Care South-West Bushfire Relief Concert will include local and established acts, with proceeds benefiting the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
“I started doing concert promotion at an early age,” Reid said.
“One of the reasons why it’s relevant to us is because one of our guys lost everything in Yarloop and I was fortunate enough to know the people who had the key skills to help.”
Howie Johnstone, drummer of band Dave Warner’s From the Suburbs, lost his Yarloop home in the blaze.
Reid said the outdoor concert, which will feature four stages and eight hours of entertainment, was a massive undertaking.
“Just for the labour and equipment hire, a concert like this costs about $350,000,” he said.
“We want to show the victims we care, so give generously; it’s very easy to come in
and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere.”
One of the four concert stages will be family-themed and attendees can bring picnic baskets but not alcohol.
