Meter a reminder of threat of the sun

Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

A NEW real-time UV meter will help South Lake Primary reinforce sensible sun habits, the school’s principal says.

South Lake PS was presented with the meter by Cancer Council WA at an assembly on Thursday.

Principal Leigh Liley said the meter would be placed on the school’s art building, which faces the oval.

“We are a SunSmart School and the meter will be a visible indicator of the potency of the sun throughout the year,” she said.

“It will reinforce the importance of sensible sun habits to prevent skin cancers.”

The school was one of 145 entries in the 2015 SunSmart Schools competition.

Malvern Springs Primary School in Ellenbrook won the major prize of $10,000 to spend on shade.

Both winners were drawn at random.
