Ah Chee shines for Suns

Cockburn Gazette - - WORKPLACE -

RECENTLY drafted Kelmscott footballer Callum Ah Chee is putting his hand up for selection for the Gold Coast Suns with some impressive performances on the track.

Ah Chee was one of the standout players for the Gold Coast Suns Red in an intraclub match.

The South Fremantle product booted two goals for his side but also showed real X-factor, including some big marks in marking contests.

Suns coach Rodney Eade was impressed with his performance.

“He played alright didn’t he?” he said. “He was good.

“He’s a terrific kid. He’s still got a fair bit to learn and some areas to work on but certainly his talent, I don’t think that’s questioned, but the pleasing thing was his work rate and his courage in the contest.”

The 18-year-old was drafted to the Suns with the number eight pick during the 2015 AFL draft.

He said he was loving being in Queensland.

“It’s Queensland so it’s a rugby state and footy doesn’t get noticed as much up here,” he said.

“At the moment I am looking at training hard and improving.”

He said having many WA players around has helped.

“At the Suns there are a lot of WA boys and a lot of indigenous boys so I guess you have to take a leaf out of all their books,” he said.
