Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

LAND tax charged by the State Government has always been an unpopular tax.

Tenants renting a private house may not be aware that the house they live in is charged land tax to the owner and then passed on to the tenant.

Whereas an owner-occupied house is free from land tax.

A commercial property is charged land tax, whether it be rented or owner occupied.

The tax is then passed on to the consumer for the goods or services from this particular business.

I think this is a fairer way to collect the tax, as everyone pays.

No residential house or home unit should be charged land tax.

It is a fact that rates and taxes must increase with inflation.
