More donors needed to address shortages
JUST one in 18 Australians eligible to donate blood actually do so.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has launched a 12-month campaign to attract 115,000 new donors.
Bolstered donor ranks will be important to combat blood shortages around long-weekends and during cold and flu seasons.
Blood Service spokeswoman Lagoudakis called on others to help out.
“Because there are times when donor numbers are traditionally low, we need additional donors to continue helping the one in three Australians who will need donated blood in their lifetime,” she said.
