Lawyer is Greens’ choice for election

NEW CANDIDATE FOR SEAT

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS - Jessica Nico

BRAD Pettitt will continue as Fremantle Mayor after the WA Greens selected lawyer Kate Davis as their candidate for the 2016 Federal Election.

The Tenancy WA founder, who has also worked for the Women’s Law Centre, said she would be looking to continue the focus on “progressive” representation Labor incumbent Melissa Parke had brought to the role for the past nine years.

“It is an exciting time for Fremantle in terms of voters looking for their next progressive lower house Federal MP,” she said.

Historically a safe Labor seat, Fremantle Deputy Mayor and Melissa Parke staffer Josh Wilson and Maritime Union of Australia’s Chris Brown both nominated for the Labor party.

Dr Pettitt considered nominating for the WA Greens, but only if Mr Wilson did not nominate. Deadline for Liberal nomination is March 22. A date is yet to be set for the election.
