Hockey club on the move

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

The idea of a new facility in South Lake has been floated for a decade.

But it has gained significant traction in the last few years.

In October 2013, a report was presented to council proposing the FHC, which has been based at Fremantle’s Stevens Reserve for 80 years, relocate to South Lake.

The decision was deferred, with the time since used by the City of Cockburn, the FHC, the Department of Education, and Department of Sport and Recreation to develop a plan for the build.

After eight decades at its original base, a spokesman for the club told Thursday’s City of Cockburn meeting it was time for a move.

“To meet our aspirations quite simply we need a synthetic turf and proper facilities for us to operate,” the spokesman said.

Hockey WA vicepresident Martin Spencer also spoke in favour of the move on Thursday.

Fremantle Family Support Network staff Laura Roche, Bev Jowle, Sue Nickisson, Deanna Thomas and Ian Gorman work to connect families with the services they need.
