IT is es­ti­mated that by 2050 there will be more plas­tic in the world’s oceans than there are fish.

I would have thought it is like that now, with the Great Pa­cific Garbage Patch that we know of and all the plas­tic that is mak­ing its way down to Antarc­tica, quite apart from the lo­cal plas­tic soup on most coun­tries’ beaches.

Then take into ac­count the mostly fish-de­pleted oceans around Asia and parts of Europe, and I would say that 2050 is a bit op­ti­mistic.
