Fremantle sweeps awards
FREMANTLE District Cricket Club was recognised for a stellar year that saw them end a grand final drought at the recent Olly Cooley Medal award night.
Awarded to the best WA Premier Cricket player of the season, Fremantle’s English import Thomas Abell came equal second in the medal count, just one point behind joint winners Stewart Walters (Midland-Guildford) and Brendon Diamanti (Rockingham-Mandurah).
Abell was also the only Fremantle player to make the 12-man Team of the Year.
Teammate Jake Carder won the Allan Edwards Trophy, awarded to the best first-grade cricketer who has not played for WA but shows qualities of being a good citizen.
Fremantle curator Pepi Camponovo won the Best Pitch Award for his work on the Stevens Reserve wicket.
