Fre­man­tle sweeps awards

FRE­MAN­TLE District Cricket Club was recog­nised for a stel­lar year that saw them end a grand fi­nal drought at the re­cent Olly Cooley Medal award night.

Awarded to the best WA Premier Cricket player of the sea­son, Fre­man­tle’s English im­port Thomas Abell came equal sec­ond in the medal count, just one point be­hind joint win­ners Ste­wart Wal­ters (Mid­land-Guild­ford) and Bren­don Dia­manti (Rock­ing­ham-Man­durah).

Abell was also the only Fre­man­tle player to make the 12-man Team of the Year.

Team­mate Jake Carder won the Allan Ed­wards Tro­phy, awarded to the best first-grade crick­eter who has not played for WA but shows qual­i­ties of be­ing a good ci­ti­zen.

Fre­man­tle cu­ra­tor Pepi Cam­ponovo won the Best Pitch Award for his work on the Stevens Re­serve wicket.
