Heritage vehicles on show

Cockburn Gazette - - STREET WATCH -

OLD vehicles which helped power the golden era of market gardening in Cockburn will be on display at Manning Park in Hamilton Hill on Sunday.

The Heritage Vehicle and Machinery Day, which will coincide with National Motoring Heritage Day and run just a few days before International Museums Day, will feature vintage cars, tractors, trucks, and a few other special vehicles.

The Azelia Ley Homestead Museum will also be open, as will the wagon house.

The 5km Manning Park Trail Run for charity will also take place at the park on the same day, as well as Patchwork in the Park.

Heritage Vehicle and Machinery Day organiser Duane Sain said the first two events had proven popular, a trend he was hoping would continue.

“It’s a great way to connect people with the past,” he said.

“Events like these show people the vehicles and machinery that helped grow the City.”

Mr Sain’s father, Jure, still farms his land in Wattleup using older vehicles.

The produce is then sent to markets around Perth, including Canning Vale and Stock Road.

“It’s got to the stage where a lot of people have no idea where there food comes from,” Mr Sain said.

“It’s great to show them there are still people like us here.”

Mr Sain said people interested in showing off their car or machinery can do so.
