Phoebe’s first run
PHOEBE MacKellar has a much bigger stake in this year’s Run for a Reason than just a bit of exercise.
The East Fremantle resident’s decision to take part in the event was an easy one as she aims to raise as much money as possible for an organisation close to her heart – the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Setting herself a fundraising target of $20,000, Ms MacKellar has smashed it, already at more than $24,000 and counting, becoming Run for a Reason’s biggest individual fundraiser for the year.
She said with her family touched by cancer, it was the first time she would be running for a cause so close to her.
“I did some research into which charity was most appropriate to put the money towards and I thought the work done by the prostate cancer researchers at the Perkins Institute was inspiring,” she said.
“The statistics on men being diagnosed with prostate cancer each year is mind blowing. I wanted to do my part in raising money to assist our dedicated researchers continue to find answers and new treatments.”
