INTERSTATE SUCCESS FOR PAINTER
FREMANTLE artist Jo Darvall’s whirlwind 2016 will continue with a solo exhibition at the new Melbourne art gallery Sagra.
Recently secured grant THE Alfred Cove Art Society’s annual Awards of Excellence are on again, and two local artists are putting their work forward.
Fremantle’s Mitzi Smith and East Fremantle’s Pam Ferreira will be among the scores of local artists entering the award and accompanying exhibition.
Smith has worked in Melbourne, England and Canada, specialising in fashion illustration, magazine and poster design, book illustration and cartooning.
She has had good history at the ACAS Awards of Excellence, winning the mixed media category in 2009 and 2010 as well as numerous other awards.
Ferreira has had a love of art since a young age, living in England and Canada before moving to Perth and joining the ACAS in 2013.
An avid travel artist, Ferreira never sets off on an adventure without some art supplies and an art diary.
The ACAS Awards of Excellence exhibition is on May 31 until June 6 at the Atwell Gallery in Alfred Cove.

Darvall said her newest work was inspired by the Australian bush and people’s continual fear of the untamed.
