FRE­MAN­TLE artist Jo Dar­vall’s whirl­wind 2016 will con­tinue with a solo ex­hi­bi­tion at the new Mel­bourne art gallery Sa­gra.

Re­cently se­cured grant THE Al­fred Cove Art So­ci­ety’s an­nual Awards of Ex­cel­lence are on again, and two lo­cal artists are putting their work for­ward.

Fre­man­tle’s Mitzi Smith and East Fre­man­tle’s Pam Fer­reira will be among the scores of lo­cal artists en­ter­ing the award and ac­com­pa­ny­ing ex­hi­bi­tion.

Smith has worked in Mel­bourne, Eng­land and Canada, spe­cial­is­ing in fash­ion illustrati­on, mag­a­zine and poster de­sign, book illustrati­on and car­toon­ing.

She has had good his­tory at the ACAS Awards of Ex­cel­lence, win­ning the mixed me­dia cat­e­gory in 2009 and 2010 as well as nu­mer­ous other awards.

Fer­reira has had a love of art since a young age, liv­ing in Eng­land and Canada be­fore mov­ing to Perth and join­ing the ACAS in 2013.

An avid travel artist, Fer­reira never sets off on an ad­ven­ture with­out some art sup­plies and an art diary.

The ACAS Awards of Ex­cel­lence ex­hi­bi­tion is on May 31 un­til June 6 at the Atwell Gallery in Al­fred Cove.

Dar­vall said her new­est work was in­spired by the Aus­tralian bush and peo­ple’s con­tin­ual fear of the un­tamed.
