St John centre opens
THE urgent care centre at the Cockburn Gateway shopping centre precinct will accept its first patients on Saturday.
The centre, run by St John Ambulance WA, will help patients with non-life-threatening conditions including sprains or possible breaks, cuts, flu and cold symptoms and sports injuries. The new service should reduce the demand on emergency departments.
The centre will be open from 8am to 10pm, and will be staffed by a doctor, nurse and paramedics.
St John health service director Phil Homan said the service would accept walk-in patients.
This will be extended to ambulance arrivals in the future.
A Joondalup branch will also open on Saturday.
