NORTH Coogee resident Annette Milne will become the first WA woman to complete all four Oxfam Trailwalker endurance challenges in the one year.

Trailwalkers compete in teams, aiming to walk 100km of bush trail within the space of 48 hours.

But the challenge is not a relay, with teams starting, walking and finishing together.

It takes place in Australia, India, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, France, the UK, Belgium and Hong Kong, with the goal to raise money for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty.

“I originally got involved with Trailwalker for a personal challenge,” Ms Milne said.

“I admire the work Oxfam does and wanted to do my bit to help people living in poverty.

“My passion for Oxfam and fundraising has seen my team raise over $60,000 in four years.”

Ms Milne completed the Melbourne challenge in April and the Brisbane leg in June.

In August, she will travel to Sydney for part three before heading home to take part in the Perth challenge in September with In Hot Water teammates Marlene Prow, Libby Waugh and Geoff Whitworth.

The Perth leg will start in Darlington and finish in Forrestfield, with checkpoints at the John Forrest National Park, Mount Helena, Chidlow, Mundaring, Darlington and Kalamunda.

“Taking on four walks is a massive challenge,” Ms Milne said. “You need to be prepared for the long hours without rest and sleep, but in the end we go home to food, a hot shower and a warm bed unlike so many people living in poverty.”
