Port Boys give University a lesson
FREMANTLE WIN WITH 9 WICKETS AND 14 OVERS TO SPARE
FREMANTLE remain on top of the WA Premier Cricket table following a crushing nine wicket victory over University on Saturday.
English import Tom Abell and fellow opener Chris Chellew backed up the good work of their bowlers, sharing in a rocksolid opening stand of 145 to chase down Uni’s score of 9-195 SUPPORTED BY ORANGE AUTOS in 50 overs at Stevens Reserve.
Batting first, University were in a strong position at 1-83 before the wheels began to come loose.
Ben Moore broke a 74-run stand between Will Bosisto and Brendan Murray when he had the latter caught for 41.
Bosisto carried his bat to finish with 108 from 157 deliveries.
His innings included three sixes and nine fours.
But the support was not there, with no other batsman scoring more than 14 runs.
Moore finished with bowling figures of 4-27. Chellew recorded 3-29.
The other two wickets to fall were run-outs.
In reply, Abell crunched 12 fours on his way to 77 before he was caught off the bowling of Nick Maiolo.
Chellew went one better with 78 runs from 107 deliveries, his innings also including 12 fours.
Fremantle secured the win with just one wicket down and 14 overs to spare.
The Port Boys, who are equal top with South Perth after four rounds, faces grand final conquerors Rockingham-Mandurah next Saturday at Lark Hill.
