Port Boys give Univer­sity a les­son

FRE­MAN­TLE re­main on top of the WA Pre­mier Cricket ta­ble fol­low­ing a crush­ing nine wicket vic­tory over Univer­sity on Satur­day.

English im­port Tom Abell and fel­low opener Chris Chellew backed up the good work of their bowlers, shar­ing in a rock­solid open­ing stand of 145 to chase down Uni’s score of 9-195 SUP­PORTED BY OR­ANGE AU­TOS in 50 overs at Stevens Re­serve.

Bat­ting first, Univer­sity were in a strong po­si­tion at 1-83 be­fore the wheels be­gan to come loose.

Ben Moore broke a 74-run stand be­tween Will Bo­sisto and Bren­dan Mur­ray when he had the lat­ter caught for 41.

Bo­sisto car­ried his bat to fin­ish with 108 from 157 de­liv­er­ies.

His in­nings in­cluded three sixes and nine fours.

But the sup­port was not there, with no other bats­man scor­ing more than 14 runs.

Moore fin­ished with bowl­ing fig­ures of 4-27. Chellew recorded 3-29.

The other two wick­ets to fall were run-outs.

In re­ply, Abell crunched 12 fours on his way to 77 be­fore he was caught off the bowl­ing of Nick Maiolo.

Chellew went one bet­ter with 78 runs from 107 de­liv­er­ies, his in­nings also in­clud­ing 12 fours.

Fre­man­tle se­cured the win with just one wicket down and 14 overs to spare.

The Port Boys, who are equal top with South Perth af­ter four rounds, faces grand fi­nal con­querors Rock­ing­ham-Man­durah next Satur­day at Lark Hill.
