Bulldogs show bite
SOUTH Fremantle bounced back to form with a convincing win over 2016 WAFL premiers Peel on Saturday.
SOUTH Fremantle halted Peel’s perfect start to 2017 with a 43-point win at Rushton Park on Saturday.
The Bulldogs won every quarter against the 2016 premiers on their way to a 12.14 (86) to 5.13 (43) result, which moved them up to fourth spot on the WAFL table and within striking distance of top place.
Cory Dell’Olio was the star up forward with four goals.
Mason Shaw kicked three majors, while Brendan Verrier, Blaine Johnson, Ryan Cook, Jason Maskos and Ashton Hams also hit the scoreboard.
Hams was the visitors’ major ball winner with 34 disposals to go with his one goal.
He added 10 marks, two tackles and four inside-50s to a pretty complete game.
Peel struggled to find a dominant target in their forward 50, with five individual goal-scorers.
Matt Taberner struggled for accuracy, finishing with 1.5.
That came a week after he put his hand up for an AFL recall by booting five straight against East Fremantle.
Harley Balic looks close to an AFL debut, with the 20year-old gathering 30 touches.
South Fremantle will host sixth-place West Perth at Fremantle Oval on Saturday afternoon.
East Fremantle will travel to Lathlain Park to play Perth, also on Saturday.
