Ambassador speaks out for environment

Cockburn Gazette - - LOCAL SPORTS STARS -

BENTLEY resident Alison Williams was crowned Earth Australia Ambassador in Melbourne last month.

The beauty pageant aims to raise community awareness about the environment and the importance of conservation.

Ms Williams (43) chose ocean conservation organisation Sea Shepherd Australia and local charity FoodBank WA to promote in her role as 2017 Australia’s Earth Ambassador.

Sea Shepherd is presently running free public tours of its patrol vessel, the Ocean Warrior, moored at Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour, on Sundays 10am-4pm.

She said she had volunteered for many charities over the past 12 months, including the RSPCA, and had become a vegan this year.

“I only started competing in beauty pageants last year after taking a break from modelling while having my son, who is now nine years old,” she said.

“I wanted to be a good role model for my son as well as educate him about conservation and give back to the community while having an opportunity to meet new people and engage in the community about issues that I feel passionate about.”
