Dock­ers too good for pre­miers

FRE­MAN­TLE is on the board in sea­son 2017 af­ter a stir­ring win over the Western Bull­dogs at Su­bi­aco Oval on Saturday night.

In a match that had ev­ery­thing, the Dock­ers jumped the reign­ing pre­miers early and sur­vived fall­ing be­hind in the third term, be­fore pow­er­ing to an im­pres­sive 13.11 (89) to 10.13 (73) vic­tory.

Ex­cit­ing small for­ward Michael Wal­ters booted three goals, while Hay­den Crozier, David Mundy, Cam McCarthy and Shane Ker­sten booted two each.

Classy left-footer Stephen Hill was dam­ag­ing with his 33 dis­pos­als, while cap­tain Nat Fyfe also gath­ered 33 in the win.

Af­ter mak­ing six changes to the side that lost the open­ing two matches of the sea­son, Ross Lyon was un­der­stand­ably pleased.

“We are in the busi­ness of be­ing writ­ten off and pumped up; it’s never as good and it’s never as bad,” he said.

“Tonight proved that.”
