Trading hours bid

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

CONSUMERS are open to extended trading hours, according to a new survey backed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA.

Fifty-nine per cent of those surveyed said they were open to longer retail trading hours during the week, while 18 per cent opposed any change.

Close to one quarter (23 per cent) were neutral.

There was also strong support for extended hours on Sunday, with 54 per cent of those surveyed saying they would like added retail hours to shop.

Twenty-eight per cent were opposed and 18 per cent were neutral.

CCI chief executive Deidre Willmott said it was clear WA shoppers wanted retail trading hours reform.

“It’s 2017 – it is high time that Western Australia’s archaic and bizarre retail trading laws were fully deregulated so consumers can choose when they shop and businesses can choose when they open,” she said.
