24-hour just the medicine

Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

THE metro area’s second 24hour pharmacy has been open only since March but its owner says the decision to operate around the clock has already been validated.

With the only other 24-7 chemist being in Mt Lawley, Harvest Lakes Discount Drug Store owner Kim Vo said there was a clear need for the service.

“We have had very positive feedback from the community on social media and in person,” she said.

“It has been mostly families with young children that have run out of Panadol in the middle of the night and need it to reduce their child’s temperature.

“We have had patients discharged from hospital in the early hours of the morning with prescriptions that urgently need to be filled.

“There are also FIFO workers that fly out for work at 5am who have run out of medication or vitamins and have been very happy to see that we are open for them.”

The pharmacy complements the larger Harvest Lakes Medical Centre, which began operating 24 hours a day last October.

“The Medical Centre has helped many patients in the middle of the night, some travelling from as far as Mandurah,” Ms Vo said.

“When the doctor prescribes a medication, we can fill it there and then for them.

“For people that have a non-life threatening condition, it is so much more convenient to avoid waiting in an emergency room right next door to a pharmacy that will be able to provide them medication should they need it.”

The Gibbs Road pharmacy will host a launch on May 14 with fun for kids, treats for mums and a performance from a local cheerleading group.
