Whispers over headline acts
A HOST of big-time performers are being considered by the City of Cockburn to headline its community concert in February.
AUSTRALIAN singer John Farnham is the City of Cockburn’s main target to headline its community concert early next year.
City councillors signed off on its 2017-18 calendar of events last Thursday evening, with $160,000 to be allocated to the free event at the Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre in February.
Previously two community concerts were held annually, with X Factor 2013 winner Dami Im and crooner David Campbell headlining events this year, but the City has decided to drop that to one.
Farnham, the ARIA Award winner behind hits including You’re the Voice, tops the list of 11 artists being considered to star.
Also among them is Fremantle band San Cisco, Perth rock band Birds of Tokyo, Perthraised singer-songwriter Troye Sivan and Jessica Mauboy, who performed at Cockburn’s community concert in 2012.
One will be selected, with a support act to be determined by the cost of the main act.
The 2017-18 calendar of events will cost the City about $715,000.
New to the schedule is the introduction of a major arts and
cultural light event along the Cockburn coast.
Flagged in December, “Coogee Live” will be a three-day festival showcasing the area through a range of free lighting and laser displays, art, theatre and hawkers markets.
It will be held in March at a cost of $260,000, subject to the City securing about $90,000 in sponsorships from Lotterywest and Healthway.
