Cockburn back in form

Cockburn Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

COCKBURN City’s 1-1 draw against ladder-leaders Floreat Athena signals a return to form after a mid-season slump that saw them struggle to match their opponents on the field.

It could have been a win for Cockburn, but they squandered a chance in the first 10 minutes after Gian Albano hit the post with his shot, and Reuben Tristao missed an identical chance shortly after.

Floreat scored via a deflection from a free kick at the 37th minute mark, but Cockburn equalised nine minutes into the second half through Albano after he was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty.

Cockburn coach Scott Miller said he was pleased with the performance, but disappointed they couldn’t secure the win.

“We were fantastic, the work rate was great and the team embraced the challenge against the best team in the league,” he said.

Cockburn will play Armadale at Dalmatinac Park from 3pm on June 24.
