Eight-year-old driver dies

A GIRL in­jured af­ter a crash at Perth Mo­tor­plex in Kwinana has died.

Anita Board (8) was driv­ing a drag rac­ing car for a test run at 12.20pm on Satur­day. At the end of the run she failed to stop and struck a ce­ment bar­rier.

Anita re­ceived life-threat­en­ing in­juries and was taken to Rock­ing­ham Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to Princess Mar­garet Hos­pi­tal. She was in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion this morning and later passed away.

The Aus­tralian Na­tional Drag Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion is­sued a state­ment, say­ing as­so­ci­a­tion mem­bers were deeply sad­dened to con­firm the pass­ing of the ju­nior dragster com­peti­tor.

“Ev­ery­one at the Aus­tralian Na­tional Drag Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion ex­tends its sin­cere and deep­est con­do­lences to Anita’s fam­ily, friends and the wider drag rac­ing com­mu­nity at this tragic time,” the state­ment said.

“ANDRA will con­tinue to work with Venues-West and con­tinue to as­sist po­lice with their in­ves­ti­ga­tions while sup­port­ing Anita’s fam­ily.”

Po­lice will pre­pare a re­port for the Coroner.

Po­lice would like to speak to any­one who was at the Mo­tor­plex who saw the crash, or has vi­sion of the crash.
