President shares passion

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS - Bryce Luff

MELVILLE Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) president Tony Romano says his passion for small businesses was behind his successful bid for another 12 months in the role.

Mr Romano was voted in for a sixth term as president during the MCCC’s annual general meeting on October 25.

He said the chance to work with and promote businesses kept the role interesting.

“We want to give small business owners the chance to meet other people in the same boat,” he said.

“I’m a small business owner myself, so I think I can relate to what it’s all about.

“I enjoy meeting new people and promoting local businesses in the community.”

The chamber was established in Melville in 1984 to foster business growth and development in the district.

With 150 members and sponsors, including the cities of Melville and Cockburn, Mr Romano said the MCCC was now in the best shape he had seen it.

He said after-hours functions had proven popular over the last year, as had its educational programs.

“We’re not trying to do anything fancy,” he said.

“We’re a facilitator of services, not a deliverer, so we bring people in who we think will be beneficial.”
