Adventure for patients

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

PATIENTS and families of Princess Margaret Hospital’s oncology ward were treated to a day out as part of Adventure World’s ‘Big Day Out’ earlier this month.

The VIP treatment was rolled out at the Dragon’s Kingdom for about 400 in-patient and out-patient children and families of Ward 3B.

Adventure World chief executive Andrew Sharry said children and families of the hospital’s 3B who faced extremely challenging circumstances were inspiring.

“They remain amazingly strong and resilient,” he said.

“This was our opportunity to give these families a magical day out at no cost to them. “It’s our way of helping out.” Mr Sharry said the team loved to see the joy Adventure World was able to bring to the families.

“We are very proud to be involved in such a special day and this year’s event brought all the joy we hoped for,” he said.

“This day would not have been possible without the assistance of several sponsors, many of whom have been supporting the event for years, such as Bankwest, Coca Cola, Cockburn Party Hire, Worldwide Print and Rosie O Face Painters.”

The event was first held seven years ago after a young boy named Callum Jones wanted to go to a theme park and the Make-A-Wish Foundation could not deliver his wish because of lack of funding. A journalist brought this to Adventure World’s attention and following a meeting with Callum and his family, he was offered a free trip to Adventure World.

This year’s event featured a gourmet lunch, entertainment and visits from Dragon Kingdom’s own Yarli, Yarlotte and Flossy the Fairy, as well as gift bags for the kids.
