Driving tests on road to Success

Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

THE elation of a passed driving test and the frustration of a fail will no longer be felt in Willagee, with the local licensing centre to be moved to Success in late 2018.

A Department of Transport (DoT) spokeswoman said a review of requirements found the Willagee centre, which opened in 1997, was no longer fit for purpose.

The new Driver and Vehicle Services Centre will slot in next to Emmanuel Catholic College on the corner of Beeliar Drive and Hammond Road, Success, in the City of Cockburn.

The DoT spokeswoman said the facility, anticipated to open in late 2018, would provide a central and accessible location for its customers.

“Cockburn is the most appropriate location for the provision of DoT services due to its strong population growth, a result of large scale residential developments at Port Coogee and along the Kwinana Freeway south of Cockburn Central,” she said.

The Cockburn site will provide motorcycle and car assessments but was not considered suitable for heavy vehicle assessments, which were on the decline in Willagee.

“With more parking, a separate area for practical driving tests, larger floor space with comfortable waiting areas and improved customer service touch points, the design of the new Cockburn Centre will provide an improved customer experience,” the spokeswoman said.

The Willagee Licensing Centre will be moving to Success later this year.
