DESIGN FOR CHANGE

Cockburn Gazette - - LIFESTYLE -

THE ESSENTIALS P’Junkworld Exhibtion There Is Studio, 49 Stuart Street, Northbridge June 28 - July 13 EMERGING designer of sustainable fashion label P’Junk, Kate Hannah, will hold her first exhibition P’Junkworld from Thursday at There Is Studio in Northbridge.

Hannah’s exhibition will encompass fashion, art and film.

The gallery will play host to colourful P’Junk wearable art pieces, presented alongside visual artworks, interactive installations and film in a tactile multimedia show.

A meandering gallery set up will enable people to touch, see and listen to a variety of engaging elements on display.

Hannah, whose ethos includes practising sustainability, said textile waste was one of the biggest problems facing the fashion industry.

“I place high importance on being sustainably minded and ethical,” she said.

“I like to incorporate recycled and second-hand materials into my design work to help do my bit to push for change.

“I love the challenge presented by taking things that have been discarded and totally reworking them to be a part of a fabulous new fashion creation. My design practice is very materials-driven and involves experimenting with the second-hand materials I have sourced to find solutions for giving them new life.

“I work with a variety of second-hand materials that I up-cycle in my designs.”

WHAT: WHERE: WHEN: Kate Hannah likes to up-cycle materials for her designs.
