Better late than never for winner

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

A COCKBURN man is WA’s latest big winner after netting more than $408,000 in Saturday Lotto.

The train driver took more than a month to come forward after admitting that he had not paid attention to the draw dates or numbers.

He said he usually gave a pile of Lotto tickets to his mum to check every few weeks but this time, on a whim, he decided to check the ticket himself at Gateway News and Lottery Centre.

“I was just talking to the staff at the store about the missing ticket and who it could be – turned out it was me!” he said.

He said he wanted to use the money to help his mother, who had battled cancer for the past five months, reunite with her sister and treat the pair to a cruise.

“As a family we often talk about what it would be like to win and now we’re experiencing it and it feels great,” he said.

“I may retire early, although I enjoy my job so much I might just go casual.

“I don’t really need anything but I’ve had my eye on a new phone and might upgrade my car, but there’s no rush.

“Fingers crossed the good news continues this week and Mum gets the all clear so our family can enjoy good times ahead.”
