Fre­man­tle moves up

FRE­MAN­TLE has recorded a com­pre­hen­sive win over Mt Law­ley in round 7 of the WA Premier Cricket com­pe­ti­tion.

Fre­man­tle had the as­cen­dancy at the end of day one’s play af­ter bat­ting their way to a four-run lead be­fore declar­ing and re­duc­ing Mt Law­ley to 4-48 in the se­cond in­nings at the end of day’s play.

An­other bat­ting col­lapse from Mt Law­ley, where no bats­man reached 20 runs, had the vis­i­tors limp to 108 and a small to­tal of 104 to de­fend.

Tim Miles took three wick­ets for Fre­man­tle in the se­cond in­nings, while Zach Fer­ris and Thomas Abell took two apiece.

Fre­man­tle made light work of the chase, with a 63 not out to opener Jake Carder help­ing to en­sure they re­main un­de­feated in the two-day for­mat.

The win cat­a­pulted Fre­man­tle to se­cond place on the lad­der af­ter seven games, one point be­hind lead­ers Rock­ing­ham-Man­durah.

They next take on 13th placed South Perth at Richard­son Park on De­cem­ber 1 and 8.

In the South Met­ro­pol­i­tan Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion com­pe­ti­tion, East Fre­man­tle was the only one of the four lo­cal teams to record a win in round 5.
