FIVE new schools will open in Perth’s growing corridors in 2021, including two in Harrisdale and Southern River.

Premier Mark McGowan visited the new Aspiri Primary School in Piara Waters last Wednesday to announce State Government plans to open new schools in Baldivis, Brabham, Harrisdale, Southern River and Yanchep.

Catering for kindergarten to Year 6, the $20.5 million Harrisdale North Primary School (planning name) will take some 540 students and will open in 2021.

The first stage of the new Southern River Primary School (planning name) will open in 2021 for up to 160 kindergarten and preprimary students.

Stage 2 will be completed for the start of the 2023 school year, with the school to cater for 540 students up to Year 6.

They will join neighbouring Aspiri Primary School and Southern Grove Primary School in Southern River, which will open their doors to students up to Year 6 in 2019.

The new high school in Hammond Park will also open in 2020.

Mr McGowan said the schools would provide more options for parents in Perth’s growing corridors.

“The benefits of having quality local schools across our communities are essential for families and I’m pleased we are able to provide much-needed new schools to some of our fastest-growing suburbs,” he said.

Education Minister Sue Ellery said quality local schools were needed to give children the best start to life.

“Our rapidly-growing northern, eastern and southern suburbs need new schools and we are proud to deliver these vitally important facilities for WA families,” she said.

“We are committed to providing children with a high-quality education by providing the latest technology and modern facilities to support their learning.”
