Local school librarian retires
Beverley Bennett has seen thousands of students come through Jandakot Primary School in her three decades as a library officer.
JANDAKOT Primary School’s Beverley Bennett has seen many changes in her three decades on the job.
Since starting as the Jandakot PS library officer more than 30 years ago, Ms Bennett has seen thousands of students come through the school, as well as a site change in 1992 after it outgrew the Poletti Road campus and moved to its current home in Baningan Avenue.
The school will undergo another change after Ms Bennett announced her retirement. She said she had enjoyed seeing the school grow during her tenure.
“I started at the old Jandakot Primary School in Beenyup (now Poletti) Road and there were only 90 students, whereas now we have in excess of 500,” she said.
“The school went from one brick building, one weatherboard building (which is now heritage listed) and four transportables into the airconditioned buildings we have today, computerisation, internet and technology.
“(The decision to retire) was fairly difficult as it has become a big part of my life and it will be a big change for me.
“I will miss the children and the staff that I have known for a long time.”
A section of the library will be renamed the Bev Bennett Reading Corner.
