Swap one for the books

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

BIG books, little books, thick ones, thin ones and those with or without pictures – Good Start Early Learning Cockburn Central wants them all as part of a fundraiser for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The childcare centre will be taking part in The Great Book Swap, acting as a collection point for unwanted books between now and September 4 when it will hold a community stall for locals to swap a book for a gold-coin donation.

Money raised during the event will be used to buy books for children living in Indigenous communities.

Goodstart Early Learning Cockburn Central’s Regina van Heythuysen said if everyone in their local community donated a book it would make a world of difference.

“The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally and raise much-needed funds for remote communities,” she said.

“This year the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s goal is to raise $350,000.”
