Blake, along with West Coast Karate clubmate Hannah Sullivan, also earned international selection and is set to travel to Chile for the Junior World Championships in October.

He said he felt confident about his chances after his first fight eased any nerves he had.

“Going into it, I’d prepared well for it. Knowing you’re the best in your division is a good feeling,” Skewes said.

Instructor Brian Sullivan said the trio were fully deserving of their medals, having seen first-hand the amount of hard work they put in.
