Bravery award to sister
A PIARA Waters girl has been recognised for her heroic actions in saving her 18-month-old sister from a vicious dog earlier this year.
Ella Andrews’ desperate defence of her sibling from an aggressive dog was commended for brave conduct as part of the Australian Bravery Awards.
On the evening of January 7, Ella was at a playground in Piara Waters with her family and other children.
She noticed a large dog running off-lead which made a beeline for the toddler.
She instinctively reached for her sister, scooping the toddler in her arms and holding her high above her own head.
The dog bit Ella on the forearm, which left a large gash, while her sister received a bruise on her face.
The pair were treated by local paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
