THE trans­for­ma­tion of a home to sup­port meningo­coc­cal pa­tient Robbie Buchan’s fam­ily has put a spot­light on the grow­ing trend of adding a sec­ond­storey ex­ten­sion us­ing pre­fab­ri­cated tech­niques.

A col­lab­o­ra­tion be­tween To­day Tonight and Niche­liv­ing achieved the ad­di­tion of an up­stairs mas­ter suite to the fam­ily’s cramped 3x1 brick-and-tile build in just hours, re­sult­ing in a 4x2 haven.

Niche­liv­ing sub­sidiary Ru­bix Fu­ture Liv­ing con­structed the 34sq m mas­ter suite pod at its Rock­ing­ham fa­cil­ity over four weeks and in­cluded in­ter­nal and ex­ter­nal fin­ish­ing, wet ar­eas, plumb­ing and elec­tri­cals.

The fin­ished tim­ber­framed pod was trans­ported to the site for in­stal­la­tion and once the ex­ist­ing home’s roof was pre­pared, a crane lifted it into po­si­tion. The ser­vices were then con­nected and the sur­round­ing roof­ing com­pleted.
