WHY DOES THIS IMAGE SAY ‘COLLECTIVE HUB’ TO YOU?

Your magazine launched at the time I was having my first solo art exhibition in Paris. I remember discovering this magazine that made me feel inspired about the next chapter of my career. The image is set in Paris at Le Meurice where my exhibition would be held. Collective Hub was one of the first magazines that really made me feel good about myself.

HOW DO YOU HOPE READERS PERCEIVE IT?

[I hope you are] inspired to follow whatever that little voice inside is telling you to do. This image represents a time when I said yes to something I was incredibly nervous about – showing 18 original pieces to an audience of 350 people. There were issues getting the pieces through customs. I had to write a speech in French! It was a nervewrecking experience I’m incredibly proud of.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

Romantic, spontaneous, mysterious. I generally work with watercolour paint, which is a very spontaneous medium. I am a complete romantic at heart, and love to leave out some obvious details in every piece. A little bit of mystery goes a long way!

HOW DO YOU BEGIN YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

I like to get into a positive mood (chocolate, coffee and great music helps!). I might look at reference images if I am working on something specific for a fashion or beauty brand. Or I might be completely spontaneous if the piece is for my own art print shop.

WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT WORKING ON NOW?

I am about to launch a new set of [shop] windows at Harrods department store in London. I also recently launched a YouTube channel, as well as an online gallery of original pieces alongside my prints which, to my surprise, have been shipping out to buyers all over the world.

HOW DO YOU FEED YOUR CREATIVE ENERGY?

Walks in the park, days at the beach, switching off from social media. I love to paint without over-thinking it, walk away from the image and look at it again later with fresh eyes to see what is missing. My grade 10 art teacher taught me that, and I still do it!
