HOW DOES THIS IMAGE SAY ‘COLLECTIVE HUB’ TO YOU?
This image is based on beauty, primarily truth in beauty. The idea that anything can be beautiful, depending on the viewer.
HOW DO YOU HOPE READERS PERCEIVE IT?
I hope they see beauty.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?
[I’m the founder of] Blacklist, a Sydney-based graphic design studio that launched in 2008. We produce original and innovative creative for clients, including Coca-Cola, Quiksilver and Universal Music. My focus is on typography and, being from a graphic design background, I tend to use collage in my work, tying images and typography together.
HOW DO YOU BEGIN YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
It all starts with a general direction or vibe, usually from something I have seen around me that sparks an idea, whether from some other piece of art, something in fashion or something in nature. I can usually picture the finished piece in my mind and so, when I start working, it’s the process of getting what’s in my head onto the paper or screen.
WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT WORKING ON NOW?
At Blacklist, there is never a dull moment! We are currently working with a range of clients creating custom design work and typography, including branding and logos, which we love, as well as creating our own products and stationery. We are also launching our wedding invitation collection soon, which we’re pretty pumped to share after 10 months of working on it, on top of other projects. It’s all a process!
HOW DO YOU FEED YOUR OWN CREATIVE ENERGY?
Surfing. It helps even the worst creative block. You should all definitely try it.
