Week-long adventure for charity
THREE mates are preparing to embark on a week-long off road adventure across the wild expanses of Australia in the name of charity.
Lesmurdie couple Ben and Tara Thomas and their friend David Gibson, of Byford, are just days away from jumping in their 2013 Toyota Prado and joining a convoy of 20 vehicles travelling from Kalgoorlie to Uluru as part of this year’s Variety 4WD Challenge.
Now in its 22nd year, the event will take participants through the MacDonnell Ranges and Kings Canyon on their journey, with each car raising thousands to help sick, disadvantaged or special needs children.
Mr Thomas said the trio was looking forward to the experience.
“We were drawn to Variety because of the great work they do supporting the sick and disadvantaged kids,” Mr Thomas said.
“We have had a couple of friends that have had children with health complications and knowing that there are charities out there like Variety to assist means a lot.”
The Variety 4WD Challenge leaves Kalgoorlie on May 27.
