Lions in first-up win for league
ROUND 1 of the WA Netball League (previously known as the State Netball League) kicked off on Friday night at the State Netball Centre.
The first game saw the Perth Lions too good over a determined Wheatbelt Flames, winning 71 to 44.
The Lions were well served by dominant goal attack and goal shooters in Cransberg, Schultz, Coakley and Burton – the daughter of former Fremantle and North Melbourne ruckman Matthew ‘Spider’ Burton.
McLernon, Aryang and Rohde were also prominent players for the Lions. For the Flames, Harrison as Goal Shooter with 31 goals was superb, along with Dickie and Mourish.
Game 2 saw a great game of netball between last year’s grand finalists in the West Coast Warriors and the Coastal Sharks. The Coastal Sharks ran out eventual winners, 54 to 38 with a dominant last quarter which netted 18 goals.
Better players for the Sharks were Warne, Parker, Turnbull and Duncan and for the Warriors, Cousins with 33 goals, Eales, Taylor and Smith also prominent.
