Computer Arts - - SHOWCASE - by Leo G Franchi www.lacar.tv

Designer Leo G Franchi was called upon to create graphics and branding for Argentinian film festival Cine a la Vista, the only international film festival in which the winning films are chosen by teenagers, now in its sixth year.

“The trickiest part of the project was working out how to design for a young festival while also attracting a general audience,” explains Franchi. “We didn’t want to confuse people and create the impression that the festival is only for teenagers, or that the films only deal with teenage themes; the festival welcomes all different narratives and is touching and appealing to a wide audience.”

Franchi hit upon the idea of modern Saul Bass-style graphics as a simple and direct treatment that would speak to youngsters, while the classic aesthetic would appeal to everyone.

“I always try to work in a mixed-media style, a kind of collage of analog and digital elements,” he says. “I like works that give you a tangible sensation – you can touch them – and this is why I decided to create everything with paper-cut shapes.”
