To celebrate our epic Ultimate Freeware issue, we thought it fitting to give away a humongous collection of samples and soundware: Sample Essentials, crammed full of exclusive new sounds and specially selected classic sample packs from the archives. First up, sample and soundware label Mode Audio have built up a sterling reputation over the past few years, with their packs consistently achieving highly commendable scores in our Reviews section. Seeing as we’re celebrating all things free this issue, we’ve taken this opportunity to team up with the label to bring you a meaty 1GB compendium of the finest sounds and patches, hand-picked from the best of their commercial selections.
What’s in the pack?
Taken from 32 Mode Audio releases, the Mode Audio CM Collection is divided into four sections: Audio Loops, Drum & Percussion Samples, Synth Presets, and Textures & SFX. The pack contains 737 WAV files broken down into Acidized WAV loops, plus tail samples (used to create natural decays for loops cut to strict bar lengths), drum and percussion samples, SFX and drone/texture samples. The pack isn’t purely audio, either: there are also a ton of NI Massive presets included, as well as a collection of MIDI loops to accompany both the presets and many of the acid WAV loops.
This collection features the cream of Mode Audio’s sampling history, taken from packs such as Density, Float, Neon Dream, Heatwave, Fracture and Sunset Electronic, all of which garnered impressive review scores in recent issues of .
How to get it
To obtain the pack, either head to vault.computermusic.co.uk and register this issue (230), or load the DVD that comes with the print edition of this magazine. Copy the Mode Audio CM Collection folder to a location on your hard drive – preferably your usual ‘Samples’ folder – then load the sounds into your DAW via its browser or drag ’n’ drop. NI Massive presets are loaded by opening the synth, selecting File » Open Sound, then navigating to the desired preset.
