SPAN has two Settings pages: one for its own SPAN-specific options, accessed via the Settings button at the top right of the GUI, and another containing a ton of options common to all Voxengo plugins, accessed via the Global Voxengo Software Settings button within the SPAN settings page.

In SPAN’s own settings, the interface can be customised in terms of colour and size. The UI Colors menu contains Eight preset colours, and you can create your own schemes in detail in the Color Edit page, assigning every element of the plugin its own colour, contrast and opacity, and saving the final result as a preset. The UI Scale menu, meanwhile, lets you choose one of six preset window sizes, from 80-150% of default – the UI has to be closed and reopened to make the switch.

Below the GUI settings are a bank of controls for tailoring SPAN’s output metering. Turning on Density Mode focuses the meters on the dominant level range of the input signal, giving a good overview of its dynamic range. The Integration Time knob sets the RMS window size – ie, the length of time in milliseconds over which the RMS value is constantly calculated and metered. Release Time determines the time it takes for the RMS meters to fall by 20dB, and Peak Level Hold Time controls the time it takes for the peak meters to start falling after peaking.

In the Global Voxengo Software Settings panel, all manner of tweaks can be made to SPAN’s behaviour and appearance, including mouse and Shift button precision, frame rate, switching between radial and linear knob action, turning off the pop-up keyboard, activating Tablet mode and much more. Hit that question mark button for specifics…
