Sidechain compression

“We use sidechain compression quite a lot. So with our percussion, and dance music in general, the kick should be pretty prominent. It’s frequently a 4/4 pattern, so we duck our percussion to the kick drum, and if the snare or clap is falling on the same note, then we’ll duck it to that. It gives you more headroom, and gives those more prominence in the mix, which we like and is sort of expected with dance music.”
