Not at all what we expected from the title, this multisampled 1891 Bösendorfer piano enables four separately recorded ‘prepared’ configurations to be mixed and processed, to create hybrid sounds. Damped and Harmonic muffle and exaggerate the tonal colouration, respectively; Bowed sees every string played with a horsehair bow; and Plucked has them struck with the player’s hand. All four sound great, the 40 presets – each with its own mixing and FX controls – cover a lot of ground, and it’s easy to come up with interesting new noises of your own. timespace.com
