Soma Records Samples, Part 1 £20

The first in a series – we assume – of collaborations with the eponymous legendary Scottish techno label serves up 812MB of 127/130/132bpm loops, one-shots and MIDI files put together by Berlin-based producer SLV. There’s lot of material here for your 20 quid – 524 samples and 61 MIDI files, plus all the usual mapped sampler formats – and it’s edgy, brooding stuff; quite minimal, and fizzing with analogue saturation and warmth. Perhaps because of the nature of the genre, though, we did find it a tad monotonous in places. samplemagic.com
