Steinberg’s Groove Agent drum and percussion design system has been the secret rhythmic weapon of many a producer for nigh on 14 years now, and version 5 adds a number of powerful new weapons to its arsenal. First up, there’s over 14GB (7000 samples) of massively multisampled acoustic drums and cymbals by Pearl, Yamaha, Zildjian, Istanbul and Paiste, recorded at Berlin’s Teldex Studios, and comprising 47 articulations, five round robins and 20 velocity layers. Then there are 30 new kits for electronic production, 20 new MIDI Styles for songwriters, a pitch envelope, the Decompose function for separating the tonal and noise components of samples, live sampling and more.
