3. Adjusting a Drum Machine kit and recording MIDI

-

1 Drum Machine is now loaded with the Legends 909 Normal kit. Twelve of the 16 pads are now occupied with familiar drum sounds. We can trigger them from our MIDI controller or from the Drum Machine’s interface. Clicking a pad opens the Sampler editor, allowing deep tweaking of the selected sound.

2 We open the Snare in the Sampler and tweak its Repitch Speed value for a darker, lower tone. We also activate the LoPass filter in the lower-centre and reduce the Filter Frequency, while also increasing the Filter Resonance significantly. Tweak the sounds to meet your own needs.

3 Up in the top Transport bar, activate the Metronome and click the Record button to arm recording. It won’t engage until we hit Play. After a one-bar count-in, tap in a simple kick and snare pattern (you can toggle Caps Lock to enter notes with your computer keyboard). Once you’ve got something you like, hit Stop.
