A bit of a stretch

-

Rather than license the timestretching technology found in other DAWs, Bitwig initially chose to create their own algorithms. Users wanted more, and as of Bitwig Studio 2.3, they added several Elastique algorithms licensed from zplane. Understandably, these are only available in the full, licensed version. Nevertheless, Bitwig Studio 8-Track provides a number of useful timestretch algorithms, including Stretch (granular stretching that’s neutral at the original pitch and speed), Stretch HD (multiband granular stretching) and Slice (slices audio using various techniques). There’s also Raw, which doesn’t provide any beat or time synchronisation, and Repitch, in which pitch and time are linked. While the full version has a full five stretch algorithms not available in Bitwig Studio 8-Track, there’s more than enough to achieve most common tasks. Which you choose depends on your source audio and the resultant fidelity needed.
