17. Getting to know 8-Track’s automation features

-

1 Like all modern DAWs, Bitwig Studio offers automation of mix, instrument and effects parameters. We’ll use it to add drama to our mix. We’re going to need a Reverb device in our S1 Effect track, using the Hall Two preset. Let’s go back to the Arrange Panel, where we’ll then close the Clip Launcher. 2 Here’s the Inspector for our first track – the treated Legend 909 Normal drums. Two-thirds down is a knob (to the right of where it says Hall Two). This is the Send knob, which controls how much of this track is routed to the Reverb bus. Go up to the transport and arm the Automation button on the right. 3 We’ll start automating at bar 81, so we’ll set the play cursor there. We disarm the track itself, engage the transport and slowly turn the Send knob from the previous step. The action is now recorded. We do the same with the next two tracks. Clicking the Automation Editor button displays our handywork.
